What To Expect

It can be a great relief to share your worries and fears with a counsellor, someone who acknowledges your feelings and is able to help you reach a positive solution.

Whatever your reason for considering counselling and psychotherapy, it can be an amazing experience that helps you move forward to where you would like to be in life. Taking the first steps to looking after yourself and entering into counselling is often not easy. Finding the right therapist for ‘you’ is so important; you should feel a sense of trust, rapport and be able to communicate with your therapist.

Finding the Right Therapist

Finding the right therapist for ‘you’ is important and Dawn is happy to talk on the telephone so that you can get a sense of her before you meet. As an Integrative Counsellor Dawn will offer a variety of ways that you can work together to get the most out of therapy for you.

Sessions are tailored to individual needs within a gentle, professional and supportive framework. Dawn encourage clients to explore their feelings. Her approach emphasises the uniqueness of human beings and focuses on self-awareness to achieve your highest potential.

Individuals feel, think and react in different ways and integrating different theories can bring about change in life.  In respect of this Dawn’s integrative framework is influenced from modalities of Psychodynamic Counselling, Attachment theory, Object Relations, Jungian, Body Psychotherapy (Gestalt) and Existentialism.

Dawn’s integrative approach to Counselling and Psychotherapy is based on the understanding that our emotional lives and our sense of identity (personality) are developed over a long period through relationships.  The crucial developmental time is in the first years of life primarily with the closest people to us in childhood. Encouraging clients to explore and talk about childhood relationships with parents and other significant people helps in understanding the importance of how our historical (unconscious) past experience influences current behaviour.

Butterfly Counselling principally offers a reliable, professional and confidential face to face service. Recognising however that not everyone is able to physically attend sessions we can also accommodate Skype and telephone sessions.
